The volume of diagnostic imaging procedures increases about 15% per year in the United States. There is no concomitant increase in the number of practicing radiologists. The work force shortage is particularly severe in Pediatric Radiology. Many practices are straining under high case volumes. Others have adult radiology colleagues providing assistance. This is occurring at a time when advances in technology are requiring increasing time and expertise from Pediatric Radiologists. PDI Pediatric Teleradiology is a resource for forward-planning radiology groups and clinical facilities that are seeking to strengthen their practices.
Many radiology groups are rightly concerned about the risks associated with introducing outside teleradiology services into their institutions. PDI is wholly owned by radiologists. We do not answer to outside investors or shareholders. Our mission is to assist our colleague radiologists in protecting and growing their practices. We can help strengthen dedicated pediatric radiology groups by sharing workload, assisting with quality assurance activities, and participating in educational activities. Adult radiology groups can use our services to expand their pediatric subspecialty expertise, thereby strengthening relationships with hospital administration and referring clinicians.
PDI generally contracts directly with radiology groups. We contract with hospitals, clinics or imaging centers only when there is unequivocal cooperation and support from the existing radiology group. We believe that cooperative teleradiology services can serve to strengthen existing groups by positively influencing workloads, patient care, and overall service.
